I used the built-in terrain toolkit to design a custom level for the game Cataclismo. I sought to design a level with a focus on exploring the map and themed around an old river town. The level can be found here.
Details
For this level, I started with a quick hand-drawn sketch of general layout ideas I had for levels.
I decided to go with the river layout and started mapping it out in Cataclismo. I started out with just the rough shapes of the landscape before I started adding details, such as structures and enemies, as well as making the landscape look more natural.
Then I added resources in order to enable gameplay and ground types in order to make the map more interesting to look at.
I also added details such as sunken boats and ruins on the map to indicate the story of this particular level.
The final steps were to add starting resources and play the level to test its difficulty.
